Jockey Bocachica Undergoes Arm, Jaw Surgery

Jockey Orlando Bocachica underwent surgery Wednesday after his mount in the second race, Centella, ducked into the gap soon after the start of the race, unseating Bocachica.

The veteran jockey underwent surgery to repair a compound fracture of the left arm, according to agent Jay Rushing, and a broken jaw.

"He's in the hospital (Memorial Regional) and he came out of surgery OK," Rushing said. "He had two plates inserted in his jaw from what I understand. He was sedated yesterday so I will go over today and talk to him."

Bocachica, currently tied for ninth in wins and 12th in money won at Gulfstream's Championship Meet and third in wins and money won during the Gulfstream Park West meet, won his first Grade I race last year when guiding Lochte to victory in the Gulfstream Park Handicap. He also won the Monmouth Cup (G2) last summer aboard Valid. Bocachica has won 1,143 races since 1998.

Rainbow 6 Continues Returning Big Numbers

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 continues to reward bettors with life-changing results. Wednesday's 20-cent bet rewarded a bettor in Lewiston, Maine with $179,140.46 in winnings. The winning ticket cost $130.

On Jan. 3, a bettor won a $317,161.44 jackpot with a $33.60 ticket while a $12.80 ticket returned a bettor in New York $242,469.46.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out only when there is a single ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Even when there is no single ticket sold with all six winners, bettors have collected consolation payouts of $22,532, $21,873 and $16,997. All came in the month of December.

Thursday's Rainbow 6 has a guaranteed pool of $50,000.
