Marc and Jill Winston’s Jedediah, never far back, rallied outside the leaders when set down for the drive and was up to best John Duvielh and Keith and Earl Hernandez’s Butter Brown by a head in Friday’s $39,000 allowance feature for accredited Louisiana-breds at Fair Grounds.

The winner, trained by Victor Arceneaux, was ridden by Miguel Mena, who was scoring his second victory of the afternoon. The son of Wildcat Shoes paid $14.60, $8.60 and $6.60, toured the six-furlong distance in 1:11.21 and increased his career earnings to $49,200 with his third victory in five career starts.

Butter Brown returned $13.60 and $7.60 as the runner-up, and Patrick Tesson’s Macho Regent rallied late to finish third, a length and a quarter farther back, and paid $6.60 in the show spot.

David Fontenot’s Finest Cat made most of the pace while constantly challenged with early splits of 21.97 and 45.95 before weakening to fourth at the wire.
