Janis’s Joy, a 6-year-old winning, stakes-placed daughter of Broken Vow in foal to Atreides, became the highest-priced purchase during Monday’s eighth session of the 12-day Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale when she sold to Solis/Litt for $170,000. Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, consigned the mare, who is out of the stakes-winning Forestry mare Ever Elusive.

Cumulatively, Keeneland has sold 1,715 horses for $205,177,000, up 3.76 percent from $197,747,400 paid for 1,850 horses during the corresponding period in 2014 and just shy of the $205,899,500 in gross sales for the entire 11-day auction last year. The average of $119,637 is 11.93 percent above last year’s $106,890, while the median increased from $51,000 to $52,000.

On Monday, Keeneland sold 253 horses for $7,242,300, down 13.51 percent from the comparable session in 2014 when total sales reached $8,373,400 for the same number of horses. The average of $28,626 was 13.51 percent below last year’s $33,096, and the median of $22,000 was just off the $23,000 recorded in 2014.

Sold to Baccari Bloodstock for $150,000, the session’s second-high seller is Appealing Bride, dam of 2015 Pat O’Brien (G2) and Kelso (G2) winner Appealing Tale and 2015 stakes winner Colerful Bride. Consigned by Shawhan Place, agent, the 13-year-old daughter of Unbridled’s Song is out the Grade 2 stakes-winning Valid Appeal mare Regally Appealing.

Two foals, both from their sire’s first crop, brought $110,000 each to be the day’s highest-priced weanlings.

Alistair Roden Bloodstock purchased the first, a colt by Jimmy Creed out of the multiple stakes-winning Personal Flag mare Judy Soda, consigned by Four Star Sales, agent. The colt is a half-brother to stakes winner Germaniac.

Preston Stable and Prestonwood Racing bought the second, a daughter of Liaison out of the winning Pleasant Tap mare Voodoo Lounge, consigned by Stony Point, agent.

The session’s leading consignor was Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, which sold 20 horses for $993,000.

Calumet was the leading buyer with five purchases for a total of $480,000.

The November Sale continues through Friday. Sessions start at 10 a.m. The entire sale is streamed live at Keeneland.com.
