Jack's Wild Takes Hollywood Feature

Jack’s Wild ended a nine race losing streak dating to the summer of 2007, rallying late to win a $44,800 optional claimer for California breds on Friday night at Hollywood Park.

Ridden by Joel Rosario, the 2-1 second choice split horses in deep stretch and was up to defeat 8-1 shot Pop’shandsarehot by a half-length.

Owned by Benjamin C., Benjamin T. and William Warren and trained by Jorge Gutierrez, the 8-year-old Lil Tyler gelding out of the Affirmed mare It’s Binnice won for the fifth time in 39 starts. He increased his earnings to $415,850.

The win for Jack’s Wild was his first since he captured the California Turf Championship on Aug. 25, 2007 at Bay Meadows. It was also his first victory in nine tries on the Hollywood Park grass.

Completing the mile in 1:35.21, Jack’s Wild paid $6.80, $3 and $2.60. Pop’shandsarehot, making his second start as a gelding, returned $7 and $4.20. The show price on 13-1 shot Miguel’s Mascot, who finished a nose behind Pops’handsarehot, was $5.40.

Danzing Tribal was a head back in fourth, the came Troubletimesthree, One Man’s Delight, the 2-1 favorite, and Comoros, who faded after setting the pace for six furlongs.

Both Tyler Baze and Martin Garcia had two winners Friday evening. Baze is second in the standings with 48 victories, four fewer than leader Rafael Bejarano. Garcia is fourth with 30.

Get Funky, who won the opening leg under Garcia, was the only winning favorite in the Pick Six, which began with a carryover of $63,149. An additional $467,891 was bet into the pool Friday. There were five winning tickets each worth $64,575.80.
