Jackie’s Warrior dominated the final Grade 1 race of Saratoga’s summer meet in Monday’s $350,000 Hopeful, going 7 furlongs on the main track.

The two-year-old son of Maclean’s Music out of Unicorn Girl, by A. P. Five Hundred, went gate to wire in his first attempt at the distance, getting his third win in as many starts.

“He’s just fast,” winning jockey Joel Rosario said after the race. “He just goes and he’s just an unbelievable horse. He’s been able to carry the speed and keep going.”

Splits for the race were extremely fast at :22.56, 44.83  and 1:08.33. The winning time was 1:21.29.

“He’s just got so much athletic ability,” assistant trainer Scott Blasi said. “We were lucky enough to get to train his father Maclean’s Music who was as fast a horse as we’ve had, so just like his daddy he’s very brilliant away from there and it seems like he’s going to carry his speed a long way.”

Jackie’s Warrior is trained by Steve Asmussen. He is owned by Kirk Robinson, who purchased him for $95,000 in the 2019 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Blasi said the colt could be pointed towards the Oct. 10 Champagne at Belmont Park, with an ultimate goal of going to the Breeders’ Cup. Jackie's Warrior returned $5.70 for the win.
