J C’s Pride Sets Track Record at Saratoga

J C’s Pride established a track record for five furlongs on the main track in Wednesday’s third race, lowering the previous mark by 0.17 seconds with a final time of 56.54 seconds.

Ridden by Jose Lezcano, J C’s Pride showed speed throughout to win the 2-year-old maiden event by 3 ¼ lengths.

“[Lezcano] said if he bore down on him at the eighth pole, he would have went in :55,” said Bobby Barbara, who trains the son of Henny Hughes for Joseph Bucci. “I’m glad he didn’t. He’s a really nice colt. He’s a sweetheart; he’s like an old horse. He does everything so right. He handles himself with a lot of class.”

It was the second start for J C’s Pride, who was second by 2 ½ lengths to eventual Sanford winner Overdriven on July 1 at Belmont Park .
