Why Itsinthepost is the pick to rebound in Charles Whittingham

After posting a trio of Grade 2 stakes victories to open his season, the best run of Itsinthepost's career, the French-bred failed to defend his win last month in Keeneland's Elkhorn Stakes. But Horse Racing Nation's Super Screener handicapping system projects a rebound effort Saturday for the Jeff Mullins trainee.

Mike Shutty, author of the Super Screener, points out that Itsinthepost has won 7 of 16 races over the Santa Anita Park turf course he'll traverse in the Grade 2 Charles Whittingham Stakes. And in the 1 1/2-mile Elkhorn, he was doomed by a modest pace going 12 furlongs.

"He just doesn’t have that lightning-quick turn of foot to have overcome that pace scenario so he should appreciate the more honest pace here and the cutback to the 1 1/4 miles distance," Shutty said.

Itsinthepost received the only "A" rating doled out by Shutty among eight Charles Whittingham contenders. He's also the lone "must-use" horse from this event if playing multi-race wagers.

How will his backers know Itsinthepost, a 6-year-old son of American Post, is getting the correct setup? That's if jockey Tyler Baze has "this one about three lengths off the embattled front runners before deploying a sustained drive," Shutty said.

Inspiration for Super Screener Stakes Weekly analysis came from our loyal Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup Super customers. They have often asked us for a product focused on analyzing the key graded stakes that run each weekend throughout the year.

What's offered here -- for free -- is only a small sample of the full product now available. This weekend's edition includes a full-field rundown and suggested wagers for each of the Charles Whittingham, Gold Cup at Santa Anita (G1) and Shoemaker Mile (G1).
