It's Our Time wows with 6th fastest 2yo maiden win in 10 years
In the last decade, only a select group of 2-year-olds have managed to earn a Horse Racing Nation speed figure of 125 or higher in their summertime maiden victories. The latest addition to this elite group came Saturday when It's Our Time dominated his maiden special weight debut at Saratoga.
The 2-year-old colt by Not This Time earned a 129 HRN speed figure while winning by 17 3/4 lengths. Trained by Tom Amoss and out of the mare Shea D Summer, this first-time starter announced himself as a future star with his explosive performance.
"We went by (the leader) really, really quickly and opened up on this field," trainer Tom Amoss said on the At The Races program Monday. "I've never experienced that with a first-time starter. I've had it happen once when Serengeti Empress ran the Pocohontas at Churchill Downs. To have it happen with a first-time starter was really something."
Elite company
It's Our Time's 129 HRN speed figure places him in remarkable company. His debut performance surpassed the maiden-winning speed figures of several horses who went on to achieve multiple Grade 1 victories, including Fierceness, Locked and Tiz the Law. Also of note, It's Our Time followed in his sire's footsteps as Not This Time earned a 121 in 2016.
Only five 2-year-olds since 2016 have earned higher maiden-winning speed figures during the summer months, placing the Tom Amoss trainee in truly exceptional territory.
