Irish Strait cruises to impressive win in Monmouth's turf feature
Isabelle De Tomaso’s Irish Strait took over at the top of the straight and never looked back, cruising to an impressive 2 ¾ length score in the $41,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday afternoon.
With J. D. Acosta doing the piloting, Irish Strait went the mile and a sixteenth over firm turf in 1:41.32 and paid $11, $4.60 and $4 in the field of seven colts and geldings. Post-time favorite Boss Man rallied to complete the $31.40 exacta and paid $3 and $3. It was nearly another length back to Padre Graz, who paid $8.40 to show.
A New Jersey-bred 4-year-old gelding by English Channel from the Polish Numbers mare Irish Sovereign, Irish Strait is conditioned by H. Graham Motion. The winner sports a lifetime record of 3-0-3 from 11 starts.
Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, Sept. 17 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m. Monmouth will host live cards on Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 25, after which Thoroughbred racing in New Jersey moves north to the Meadowlands for 14 all-turf programs commencing on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
