Into Oblivion Tops Cast in Barretts Debutante

Into Oblivion, an impressive debut winner Aug. 24 at Del Mar, heads a field of nine in the $100,000 Barretts Debutante Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Limited to 2-year-old fillies offered for purchase at any Barretts – in Pomona – sale, the Debutante is the eighth of nine races. Post time is 2 p.m.

Members of the local jockey colony will be available for autographs and photo opportunities at various times throughout the program.

Trained by Jim Cassidy for DP Racing LLC, Into Oblivion, who was a $200,000 buy at the Barretts March sale, rallied from off the pace to win going away over the Polytrack when dismissed at 8-1.

A daughter of Into Mischief and the Aldebaran mare Free Space, Into Oblivion earned $45,000 for the victory. Since the performance, the bay worked five furlongs in 1:01 Sept. 4 at Del Mar.

Owned by W.C. Racing and trained by Doug O’Neill, Sharla Rae, who is adding blinkers, returns to the site of her debut victory.

The Afleet Alex filly out of the Gold Fever mare Jinny’s Gold prevailed by 1 ¼ lengths after a rail-skimming trip against six opponents July 13, the final day of the Summer Thoroughbred Festival.

In her subsequent race, Sharla Rae, who has banked $37,200, was a distant fourth in the Grade II Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar, finishing 12 ¾ lengths behind winner Sunset Glow, who repeated later in the meet in the Grade I Del Mar Debutante.

Trainer Jorge Periban will send out the duo of Global Hart and Aguacita.

A daughter of Globalize and the In Excess mare Sarah’s Hart, Global Hart has been fifth in three consecutive races since defeating $40,000 maidens June 21 at Santa Anita.

Like Aguacita, Global Hart, who has earned $28,420 while winning once in six starts, is owned by Via Encanto Farms LLC.

Sired by former Breeders’ Cup Mile winner War Chant and out of the Meadowlake mare Misty Water, Aguacita finished sixth of 10 in her lone start against California bred maidens Sept. 3 – closing day - at Del Mar. Nearly 13 lengths behind favored winner Stormy Adieu, Aguacita, who will race in blinkers for the first time, earned $250 for the effort.

Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer will be represented by a pair of first time starters – Dyna Star and Heat the Rocks.

Owned by Mark DeDomenico LLC and Green B. Smith, Jr., Dyna Star is a debuting daughter of Harlan’s Holiday and the Dynaformer mare Cocktail Hour. She’s worked a dozen times preparing for her debut with the six most recent drills in Pomona.

Heat the Rocks is an Unusual Heat filly owned by Brett Tahajian and co-breeders Hollendorfer and George Todaro.

Out of the Tribal Rule mare Rockella, Heat the Rocks has been training at Golden Gate Fields for her debut. She worked an easy five-furlongs in 1:03.60 over the Tapeta surface Wednesday.

Both Slew’s Charm and Elusive Mistress are winless in four starts.

The former is owned by Rozamund Barclay and trainer Mike Harrington and has hit the board in three of her defeats, earning $36,568.

Locally based, Slew’s Charm was third behind La Grange and Heart of Paradise in the $100,000 Cinderella Stakes here July 13.

Trained by Silverio Martinez for owner Bill Boatman, Elusive Mistress has yet to finish better than seventh while banking $1,000. She finished eighth of nine when 63-1 Sept. 5, opening day of the Fall meet.

Owned by Rockingham Ranch and trained by Peter Miller, Golds Venice is a Colonel John filly out of the Gold Case mare Gold Case Motel who finished last of eight in the race won by Into Oblivion. She earned $250 while defeated by 16 ¾ lengths.
