Stuart Janney and Phipps Stable’s Inspector Lynley tops the Grade III Kent Stakes at Delaware Park this Saturday.  The mile and an eighth turf affair for 3-year-olds has attracted a field of eight.

The Kentucky-bred trained by Claude McGaughey III has a career record of a win and three seconds from seven starts with earnings of $74,,884. In his most recent outing, Inspector Lynley finished second beaten a length in a one mile turf allowance at Belmont Park on June 3.  Previously, the son of Lemon Drop Kid finished sixth in a mile and a sixteenth turf allowance at Belmont Park on May 12.  On April 8, he finished third in the mile and a sixteenth Grade III Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland.

Brereton Jones’ locally-based He’ll Pay will defend the home field.  In his most recent, the son of Haynesfield finished fourth after a troubled trip, in the mile and a sixteenth $50,000 Stanton Stakes at Delaware Park on June 22.  Previously, the Kentucky-bred trained by J. Larry Jones finished fifth in the JW Murphy Stakes at Pimlico May 21.  On April 2, he won the mile and a sixteenth $100,000 Rushaway Stakes at Turfway Park on April 2.  He has a career record of two wins, a second and third from ten starts with earnings of $102,749.

“He is doing good,” said trainer J. Larry Jones.  “We may have not the best trip in the Stanton; he was parked behind horses for a long time, so he never really got a shot to make his best run.  We are just hoping we can avoid that situation in the Kent. “
