Inside Information, Royal Delta Draw 42 Noms
Older fillies and mares will take center stage on March 21 with the running of the $200,000 Royal Delta (G2) and the $200,000 Inside Information (G2) at Gulfstream Park.
A total of 42 horses were nominated to the two dirt stakes, including nine who were cross-entered in both the 1 1/16-mile Royal Delta and Inside Information, which is run at seven furlongs.
Grade 1 winner Rosalind is among the horses nominated to the Royal Delta, formerly run as the Sabin and renamed this year in honor of the multiple graded stakes winner and three-time Eclipse Award champion who captured the race in 2013.
Michael Dubb and Bethlehem Stables’ Rosalind was a closing second in the Suwannee River (G3) on Feb. 7, the 4-year-old filly’s seasonal debut and first race for trainer Chad Brown.
A multiple graded stakes winner for trainer Dale Romans, Poplar Hill Farms and Bill Cubbedge’s Molly Morgan has not raced since closing her 5-year-old campaign finishing third in the Fall City Handicap (G2) Nov. 27. Jim Tafel’s Tiz Windy was fifth in the Fall City after winning the Indiana Oaks (G2) Oct. 4.
House Rules owns back-to-back stakes wins at the Championship Meet, most recently taking the one-mile Rampart (G3) on Feb. 21. Turnback the Alarm (G3) winner Dame Dorothy, owned by celebrity chef Bobby Flay, captured the Sunshine Millions Distaff Jan. 17 in her last start. A narrow third in the Rampart, Wedding Toast won the 2013 Comely (G3) and the Miami Shores Jan. 7 at Gulfstream.
Multiple stakes winners Awesome Flower, Baffle Me, Joint Return and Shannon Nicole are also nominated, along with Sunshine Millions Distaff Preview winner Swinger’s Party.
Heading the list of nominees for the Inside Information is William Parsons, Jr. and David Howe’s Merry Meadow. Trained by Mark Hennig, the 5-year-old Henny Hughes mare has won three straight races, all in stakes, including the Sugar Swirl (G3) and Hurricane Bertie (G3).
Alto Racing’s Sweet Whiskey is gearing up for her 4-year-old debut, having won the Old Hat (G3) during last winter’s Championship Meet. Fifth in last year’s Inside Information, Centrique is one three horses nominated by trainer Marty Wolfson, along with 2014 Claiming Crown Glass Slipper winner Best Behavior and recent Gulfstream allowance winner Quiet Hour.
A maiden winner last winter at Gulfstream for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, Size went on to take the Iowa Oaks (G3) in June. Grade 1-placed Dancing House and Wildcat Lily, each of whom own wins at the current Championship Meet, and stakes winner Nesso are also nominated.
