Inimitable Romanee Faces 13 in Dowager
Gallagher’s Stud’s Inimitable Romanee, winner of this spring’s Bewitch (G3) at 1½ miles on the turf by a head, will face 13 rivals on Sunday in the 23rd running of the $125,000 Rood & Riddle Dowager for fillies and mares going the same distance on the grass.
Trained by Graham Motion, Inimitable Romanee will try to join Upperline as the only mare to sweep the Bewitch and Dowager in the same year. Upperline had her sweep in 2012.
Alan Garcia will have the mount on Inimitable Romanee, who also has Grade 3 victories in the 2013 Long Island Handicap and 2014 The Very One on her resume. She will break from post position 12.
Coming back to challenge Inimitable Romanee from the Bewitch is Joyce Young’s Caroline Thomas, who finished third in the Bewitch beaten only a neck.
Caroline Thomas, who was third here last fall in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1), is trained by Barclay Tagg, will be ridden by Joe Rocco Jr. and exit post position 13.
Also in the field is Jake Ballis and Rashard Lewis’ White Rose, winner of the first division of the Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon on Sept. 24 by 1¾ lengths going 1 5/16 miles. Trained by Bill Mott, White Rose will break from post position 14 under Shaun Bridgmohan.
