Indiana Futurity fair odds: Long shot has a chance on outside
The Horseshoe Indianapolis morning-line maker expects bettors on the Indiana Futurity to give a mulligan to Large Pour, who lost by a neck at 1-5 in the Circle City Stakes last out after setting a blistering pace but being collared late by Jazzole.
I am not as forgiving at the short price, 2-1 morning line and possibly lower, considering the other pace in here as most of these juvenile males stretch out to two turns for the first time. Being by Breeders' Cup Classic winner Vino Rosso, Large Pour figures to appreciate the one mile, 70 yards here, and maybe he controls the race from go to whoa. But I'm not willing to bet on that at a short price against a full field.
Jazzole is logical since we know he can do it, but I'm not crazy about his price either. That was a perfect trip last out, and maybe he gets it again here. But post 4 of 9 is a lot different than 7 of 12 to work out a trip.
Ismybusiness was 54-1 against Large Pour and Jazzole in the Circle City and was no match for either as his middle move into the teeth of that pace faltered and he faded to last. Unlike those two, though, he returned to win an entry-level allowance race. I'm a little discouraged that it was at 5 1/2 furlongs, but I liked the pressing style under new jock Anders Ulloa, who sticks around for the two-turn try here.
I did not price the also eligible horses, but it is worth noting that if Nine Questions draws in then he is worth a look off his win last week.
Wagering-strategy-wise, I do think it's safe that at least one of either Large Pour or Jazzole will run well, so I'll bet Ismybusiness to win and key him in the exotics with the favored pair.
