Hunt Crossing, My Due Process Win NATC Races
Dell Ennis’s Hunt Crossing proved an impressive three-length winner of the $132,362 NATC Futurity Colts Division as My Due Process took her rivals gate to wire to win the $123,718 fillies division in 1:11 flat for the “muddy” six furlongs at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Hunt Crossing went his six furlongs in 1:10 2/5 and provided freshman sire Corinthian with his first stakes winner. Sent off the 7-10 favorite in the field of six colts and geldings, Hunt Crossing paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.10. Pacesetter Dangerous Trick held for second, paying $4.40 and $2.40 and completing the $17.80 exacta. It was a head back to Managed Account, stablemate of Dangerous Trick, who paid $2.10 to show.
“It was a perfect trip,” said winning jockey Elvis Trujillo. “The outside horse (Dangerous Trick) was sent to the front and we were able to just sit right off of him. He had plenty left in the stretch.”
Hunt Crossing earned his second win in three tries in taking the NATC Futurity. He has now banked $110,417 for his connections.
My Due Process broke on top and held her rivals safely at bay, taking the NATC Futurity Fillies Division by two lengths. The Dale Romans trainee returned $8.20, $3.20 and $2.40 and topped the $21.40 exacta. Singlet, the 6-5 favorite in the field of five fillies, rallied for the place, paying $2.80 and $2.40. It was another length back to Fiftyfour Forever, who returned $2.40 to show.
“She broke right on the lead,” said winning jockey Manoel Cruz. “She has a lot of speed and I thought we would make the lead easy, but we had some pressure. I just wanted to be patient with her and when I asked her around the turn she ran on well.”
The NATC Futurity victory was the second in six starts for My Due Process, who broke her maiden on turf two back at Saratoga. The $73,631 winner’s share of the purse boosted the lifetime bankroll for the daughter of Henny Hughes to $130,087.
The NATC Futurity races are restricted to 2-year-olds who have cataloged (entered for sale) during 2011 and paid all fees associated therewith.
