Howling Time will skip Belmont, run in Saturday's Matt Winn
Howling Time will bypass Saturday's Belmont Stakes and will be entered instead in the Matt Winn (G3) at Churchill Downs on Saturday, trainer Dale Romans confirmed.
"He likes it here. We'll run here once and try to meet up with the good ones later," Romans told Horse Racing Nation Monday morning.
The decision was reported earlier in a Twitter post by Marty McGee of Daily Racing Form.
Howling Time won a May 21 allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs by five lengths over Rattle N Roll last out. Before that, he was eighth in the Lexington (G3) at Keeneland and ninth in the Fountain of Youth (G2) at Gulfstream.
As a 2-year-old, the Not This Time colt won his first two starts, both at Churchill, before finishing fifth in the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2).
Howling Time could meet Rattle N Roll again in the 1 1/16-mile Matt Winn. Also expected is Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Cyberknife, who is coming off an 18th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby.
Howling Time worked Saturday at Churchill Downs, breezing four furlongs in 48.80 seconds.
