A Pick 5 carryover of $13,386 awaits horseplayers Friday evening at Emerald Downs. For a 50-cent base wager, the action begins in Race 3 and the Horse Racing Nation Pro Reports offer insight on how to approach the sequence. HRN Power Picks is available for every track, every day and have shown a flat-bet profit during the current Emerald Downs meeting.

Race 3 features the slowest predicted pace of the night, according to the Pace Report. This could be an opportunity to try and upset the 2 favorites in this 5 horse field. No. 4 Capital Expense (7-2 ML) looks to be the one controlling things early on. In this 5 ½ furlong sprint, there won’t be much time to make up ground for those chasing him.

In Race 4, No. 5 Miss Kitness (2-1 ML) is the top Power Pick. With another slow pace likely to play out, she has advantageous controlling early speed. She won her last race here going this 6 furlong distance and looks to repeat here in a similar spot.
Another glacial pace is likely in Race 5, benefitting No. 6 Leprino (5-1 ML).  Making his second start off of a layoff, he didn’t break cleanly last time out going 5 ½ furlongs here on June 3rd. If he can return to his 2021 form, he’s a dangerous candidate to upset favored No. 4 Take Charge Deputy (8-5 ML).

The Post Position Bias Report shows that inside runners are clearly advantaged in the final two legs of the sequence. Both races will be contested at 6 ½ furlongs, where post position 2 has the highest winning percentage. 24 percent of the runners breaking from this gate are successful with an HRN Impact Score of +21 percent. Gates 5-to-9 are all under 15 percent.

Drawing the favorable 2 post in Race 7 is No. 2 Stonus Maximus (7-2 ML) who is also the top Power Pick. He broke his maiden last time out in start number 7 and faces winners for the first time.
