How to go to school for horse racing and equine studies

Racing fans might be unaware that there are great educational options for incoming college students to earn degrees in horse racing and equine studies. Students can prepare for a slew of horse careers whether in business, the racing industry or horse and farm care.   The two most recognizable programs are the Race Track Industry Program at the University of Arizona and the Equine Industry Program at the University of Louisville.  University of Louisville's Equine Industry Program  The Equine Industry Program was established in 1986 by the Kentucky legislature in support of the state's signature industry. An intense, four-year track, the Equine Industry Program offers an equine degree in business, giving students the professional skills they need to succeed in the horse industry covering equine economics, marketing and law, among other topics.  EIP graduates hold racing industry positions nationwide, from racing and breeding to marketing, sales and management.   Equine Industry Program classes include an overview of the horse industry, equine management, operations, marketing, economics and commercial law, plus equine financial management, an industry speaker series and a capstone seminar to name a few.   Some positions held by Louisville EIP graduates include: Vice President of Advertising, Daily Racing Form President, California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Vice President of Marketing, Twin Spires Special Assistant to the Track President, Churchill Downs Vice President of Sales & Business Development, Sportech Director, University of Louisville Equine Program Director of Marketing, Equilottery On-Air Personality, TVG

University of Arizona - Race Track Industry Program
The Race Track Industry Program was established in 1973 as part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a focus on pari-mutuel racing and equine bloodstock industries. Program graduates include Kentucky Derby-winning trainers Bob Baffert and Todd Pletcher, as well as racing executives throughout the country.  
Each year, the RTIP hosts one of the largest conferences on the international racing calendar, with attendees from racing jurisdictions worldwide attending. Race Track Industry Program classes include an introduction to the racing industry, the equine athlete, race track marketing and media, racing department administration, race track organization and finances, racing economics, and racing law. Some positions held by RTIP graduates include: Director, Churchill Downs Simulcast Network Commercial Manager, Curragh Racecourse Director of Racing, Texas Racing Commission Director of Racing, Santa Anita Park Director of Marketing, Monmouth Park/Meadowlands President & General Manager, Ruidoso Downs Stallion Administration, Darley Stud Executive Director, Florida Standardbred Breeder’s & Owners Association On-Air Personality, HRTV
