How to bet Charles Town Races during Thursday's winter storm
Bettors excited about a Thursday night lineup that included both Turfway and Sam Houston Race Parks surely were disappointed when Winter Storm Landon spoiled the fun from Kentucky to Texas (as well as Oaklawn in between for this weekend).
But fear not, intrepid handicappers, Charles Town Races is still a go for Thursday night, Feb. 3, and thanks to the Horse Racing Nation picks page, anyone can jump in to tonight's 9-race card with an edge!
Horse Racing Nation has a whole suite of products, but the two I found most helpful for tonight's proceedings were the pace and hot jockey reports. You can get both of those reports plus many more as part of the Pro Reports subscription package.
Pace wise, HRN identifies races 1, 2, & 4 as COLD and races 3 & 7 as HOT. I see the biggest opportunity in race 2 where #6 Just Gets Better is projected to be on the lead--a nice advantage and a likely value play considering he's the 5-2 morningline second choice versus 2-1 morning line favorite #5 Weavintheblocks.
Further examination of the Hot Jockey Report identifies Alisson Anahi Nunez (aka AA Nunez) shows she is outriding expectations odds wise, so at 12-1 here against a vulnerable morning line favorite merits inclusion.
The riskiest proposition of the night might be to try to beat #8 To The Front in race 7, as Arnaldo Bocachica is as hot as they get, but 6-5 against #9 Ms Headley is too much an underlay. Beating Bocachica on the ocho would be a good result for the pick 5 (races 5-9).
