The Horseplayer World Series (HPWS) will kick off three days of high-stakes tournament play at The Orleans casino in Las Vegas on March 30, 2017.
The HPWS is one of the most popular live tournaments, attracting over 500 entries in 2016 with its popular format and affordable buy-in. This year, 112 entries are already secured for the tournament.
Unlike at the National Handicapping Championship (NHC), players can buy-in directly to the HPWS for $1,500. There are many opportunities to qualify online ahead of time, however. This year, DerbyWars.com will offer 20 HPWS qualifying spots on Feb. 5 and 30 spots on March 5.
The format is simple. Players have six tracks to choose from each day to make 15 mythical Win-Place bets. The HPWS pays the high scoring player after days one and two. After three days of fast and furious handicapping and smart wagering, the player with the highest cumulative score wins! In 2016, the top finisher, Dan Kaplan, took home a $326,000 check!
Players love the casual atmosphere at the HPWS, where friends sit together at the banquet hall tables and smack talk each other between races. The flexible contest format adds an extra edge to the proceedings, with players searching for bigger fields and vulnerable favorites that their rivals may have missed.
If you're just starting in the contest scene, the HPWS is a great way to experience the top level of tournament play. If you've been playing tournaments for years, the HPWS is a fun option to explore along with the NHC, BCBC, or KY Derby challenges.
Qualify for the HPWS TODAY at DerbyWars.com & See You in Vegas!
