In California, the Santa Anita Derby (G1) features a match-up of the West’s best 3-year-olds, Messier and Forbidden Kingdom. At Aqueduct in the Wood Memorial (G2), top trainers Todd Pletcher, Steve Asmussen and Chad Brown have the leading contenders. At Keeneland in the Blue Grass (G1), a full field of 12 is led by Smile Happy, a son of Runhappy.
