Horak: 4 live longshots to bet on Whitney Stakes day

Photo: Eclipse Sportswire

Last Saturday, I covered Jim Dandy Stakes Day longshots at Saratoga Race Course, and two of the four ran well.

Puttheglassdown finished 2nd by a neck in the eighth race, and Channel Cat went all the way in the Bowling Green (G2) and paid $29.20.

This weekend, I will tackle the Whitney Day program.

Saratoga Race 2 - Allowance $92k/1x - 9 furlongs dirt - Post Time 1:35 p.m.

#1 Tapit Wise (8-1) breaks from the advantageous inside post, and he figures to save all of the ground stalking the pace.

The fresh colt reconnects with his winning rider Irad Ortiz Jr., and he shows three solid local works for Tom Amoss.

Saratoga Race 8 - Grade 1 Test Stakes - 7 furlongs main track - Post Time 5:06 p.m. ET

The pace should be swift with #1 Serengeti Empress, #3 Covfefe, and #6 Please Flatter Me mixing it up early.

#2 Bellafina and #5 Royal Charlotte should be right behind them, and both are strong win contenders, but they are the two favorites.

I will go with #4 Trenchtown Cat (12-1) as my live longshot.

She switched to dirt and earned improved numbers in her last pair, and Saturday’s rider Irad Ortiz Jr. guided her to a pair of turf wins at Gulfstream Park earlier this year.

She figures to stalk the pace and can spice up the exotics.

Saratoga Race 10 - De la Rose Stakes - 8 furlongs inner turf - Post Time 6:22 p.m.

This race is a real scramble.

#8 Got Stormy looks solid enough as the favorite, but she is hardly a standout.

The pace should be honest, and #9 Stella di Camelot will be closing for Chad Brown, but she will take money.

#5 Rock my Love is intriguing in her second start in North America for Jonathan Thomas, but I need to see better than her 9-2 morning line odds to play her.

I don’t know if she is good enough, but #1 Desert Isle (20-1) is worth a look at a big number for Graham Motion.

The improving, versatile 4-year-old filly exits back-to-back turf wins, including a victory in the restricted Zadracarta at Woodbine on June 29.

She should save all of the ground stalking the pace under Junior Alvarado.

Saratoga Race 11 - Allowance $80k/1x - New York-bred, 5.5 furlongs turf course - Post Time 6:56 p.m.

#8 Fled (6-1) switched to turf and dusted $16,000 claiming sprinters at Laurel Park on June 22.

He blew out a Monmouth Park bullet for this race July 25, and he projects a decent stalking trip under Jose Lezcano.
