Race 5: Hong Kong Sprint
The Hong Kong Sprint is Group 1 event contested at Sha Tin over about six furlongs for a purse of US$3.64 million. Post time is Sunday morning at 1:50 a.m. EST.
The race of the day in which the the top sprinter in the world, Ka Ying Rising, will attempt to tie the retired Hong Kong hero Golden Sixty’s 16 race win streak on route to the all time Hong Kong record of 17 straight wins held by legendary Silent Witness.
The AI model projects a dominant performance by Ka Ying Rising with expected off odds no higher than 1-5. He is projected to break well from his inside draw, sit just off the lead, and dominate in the stretch. To put this race in perspective Ka Ying Rising’s average career speed figure is higher than the lifetime top speed figures of his competition.
The interesting race will be for the minor placings. The AI model projects Satono Reve will be the betting public’s second choice followed by Fast Network and Helios Express, the 2nd place finisher in this race last year.
Two international shippers with no Hong Kong experience, Win Carnelian and Khaadem, might have been interesting but have drawn wide. The dominance of Hong Kong sprinters should be the guiding principle in playing this race but there is a touch of value in Khaadem underneath, even considering the difficulty in modeling shippers and the draw.
In terms of an ABC grid, Ka Ying Rising is the lone A. The B tier of contenders includes Satono Reve, Lucky Sweynesse, Helios Express, Fast Network, and Khaadem. C horses include Win Carnelian and Lucky With You.
Based on this, we play a trifecta with Ka Ying Rising keyed on top, the B horses in second, and the B and C horses in third: 1 with 2,3,4,6,7 with 2,3,4,5,6,7,8. The wager is $30 for a $1 base bet.
You can also join the HRN Betshare trifecta for only $3.00 a share.
