Home Journey Dominates Las Damas de Fairbanks

Proving to be the speed of the speed, Home Journey, a 15-1 longshot piloted by Tyler Baze, darted to the front leaving the gate and never was headed in winning the featured $65,000 Las Damas de Fairbanks Purse Friday at Del Mar.

 
Home Journey, a four-year-old Good Journey filly, was in control throughout the five-furlong sprint over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course, prevailing by 1 ¼ lengths in :57.05 for the distance.
 
Heat Trap closed well to be second, a length in front of Biorhythm, with Master the Blues fourth in the field of eight distaff sprinters. Stars Above Me, the 6-5 favorite, faltered to finish fifth. Belle de Lune was withdrawn from the original field.
 
Home Journey, owned by GGG Stables and Russell J. Sarno and trained by Mike Puype, returned $32.80, $11.40 and $7.60 to her backers in a crowd of  4,219.  Heat Trap paid $4.60 and $3.20, while Biorhythm returned $3.80 to show.
 
In Friday’s Pick Six, there were five perfect tickets, each worth.
 
$46,951. With a carryover of $42.533 from Thursday and $349,271 bet into the pool Friday, the Pick Six offered a total of $391,804.
 
Racing resumes Saturday with post time for the first of nine races 12:30 p.m.
 
Featured will be the Grade III $100,000 Red Carpet Handicap for older fillies and mares at a mile and three-eighths on the grass.
