Jockey Daniel Vergara escaped serious injury after being involved in a spill in the fourth race Saturday at Hollywood Park.
The Mexican-born Vergara, who has won 77 races in 2011, was unseated when Waltzing With Blue, the 2-1 favorite in the $25,000 claiming race for older horses on turf, went wrong.
Vergara, 36, was transported to nearby Centinela Hospital Medical Center. He was later released having suffered bruises to his left hip and right leg.
Waltzing With Blue, a 5-year-old Malibu Moon gelding, was euthanized after suffering an injury to his left front leg.
