Hollywood Park: Hat Trick for Rosario

Trois Aureole completed a triple for jockey Joel Rosario with a victory in the $55,050 feature Thursday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Rosario, who has won six riding titles at Betfair Hollywood Park since 2009, had only one win from 32 mounts through the first eight days of the Spring/Summer meet before scoring with his first three rides Thursday.

Trained by John Sadler for J.W. Singer LLC, Trois Aureole won for the second time in three starts in California since being privately purchased earlier in the year.

A 3-year-old English Channel filly out of the Saint Ballado mare Two Halos, Trois Aureole saved ground while racing off the pace, angled outside pacesetter and 15-1 shot Starship Flare at the top of the stretch and took command in the final furlong.

Second in her debut at the Fair Grounds last Dec. 29 for former trainer David Carroll, Trois Aureole completed the mile on turf in 1:36.04.

The 7-2 second choice in the field of eight – reduced after the scratch of longshot Ms Pianist – paid $9.60, $4.40 and $3.40 while winning by 2 ¼ lengths.

Trois Aureole pushed her earnings to $61,296 with the $32,400 payday.

Despite a very slow start, Island Paradise, the 3-1 favorite, was able to gain second in her first race since finishing third in the Grade III Miesque last Nov. 25.

Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Island Paradise returned $3.80 and $3.

Back in five days after finishing last in a turf sprint, Starship Flare, who was 2 ¼ lengths behind Island Paradise, saved third by a neck over Risky Art. The show price on Starship Flare, who was beaten by a nose by More Than Love in the aforementioned Miesque, was $8.80.

Completing the order of finish were Conjure the Spirit, Mia Isabel, Lovestealer and Gittel.

The other victories for Rosario were both gate-to-wire – Yankee Dan in the first and Jim’s Decision in the fourth.
