After three consecutive starts in graded stakes, Heir Kitty responded
to softer company, easily capturing the $48,288 allowance feature Friday at
Betfair Hollywood Park.
Last behind four Bob Baffert-trained males in the Grade III Hollywood Prevue Nov. 22, Heir Kitty, the 9-10 favorite, took advantage of a quick pace to win for the second time in five races.
Making her initial start without blinkers, the 2-year-old
Wildcat Heir filly out of the Silver Buck mare Be Silver was outrun early,
swung out for clear sailing in the stretch and had no trouble running past 17-10
second choice Imwittheblonde.
In winning by 3 ¼ lengths, the Florida bred provided jockey Garret Gomez with his first of three wins Friday.
Owned by David Bernsen and Paul Makin and trained by Peter
Miller, Heir Kitty, who was second behind Know More in the Grade II Best Pal
Aug. 5 at Del
Mar in her initial appearance versus the opposite sex, covered six furlongs
over Cushion Track in 1:10.74.
The betting choice for the first time in her career, Heir Kitty paid $3.80, $2.20 and $2.10. The $28,800 payday increased her earnings to $96,800.
Imwittheblonde, who was making her Cushion Track debut for
trainer John Sadler after a decisive maiden victory Oct. 21 at Santa Anita,
returned $2.40 and $2.10.
A clear leader after disposing of an early challenge from longshot Economy of Motion, the Montbrook filly finished 2 ¼ lengths in front of stablemate Spooky Lady, who paid $2.10 to show.
The five participants finished in order of their odds.
Spooky Lady was 4-1, fourth place finisher Pat’s Back was 9-1 and Economy of
Motion was 46-1. Wildcat Angie was scratched.
