Heart to Heart 'far from done' after first Grade 1 win
After finally notching his first Grade 1 victory in the Gulfstream Park Turf on Saturday, Heart to Heart will be nominated to the Grade 1 Maker’s 46 Mile at Keeneland run April 13, according to the Daily Racing Form.
The English Channel gelding finished second in the last two editions of the Maker’s 46 Mile, first to Miss Temple City by 1 ¼ lengths, then by a neck to American Patriot.
“He’s 7 now, but he’s far from done,” trainer Brian Lynch told the DRF. “He came out of the race well, got in a little round-pen time [Monday] morning at Palm Meadows, and will take it easy for a while before we look for the next spot.”
Heart to Heart picked up his 14th victory in 34 starts in the Gulfstream Park Turf. It was his eighth attempt at the top level, in which he had previously finished on the board four times.
Trainer Mark Casse has said champion turf miler World Approval is also under consideration for the Maker's 46 Mile.
“If it looks like there’s not a lot of speed in the race, he’ll run there,” Lynch said of Heart to Heart. “If not, I’ll wait for the Woodford Reserve at Churchill on Derby Day. I’ll probably look to run him in longer races when I can this year because it gives him more of a chance to get a breather on the lead. And when he gets a breather, like he did [in the Gulfstream Park Turf], that’s when he’s the most dangerous.”
