Havelock Finishes Fast in Woodford

Havelock charged past Perfect Officer in deep stretch to win the 15th running of the Woodford by one length and give jockey Robby Albarado his third victory in the race. Albarado also won the race with Morluc (2001) and Joe’s Son Joey (2003).

Trained by Darrin Miller, Havelock won his fourth turf sprint in as many tries in 2011 and increased his career bankroll to $366,154 with Saturday’s $90,000 check. A 4-year-old homebred son of Great Notion, Havelock covered the 5 ½ furlongs on a firm turf course in 1:01.96 in improving his career record to 14-6-0-2.

Havelock returned $12.40, $6 and $4.60. Perfect Officer, ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, returned $5.80 and $4.20 with Country Day finishing third another three-quarters of a length back under James Graham and paying $6.60 to show.

Completing the field in order were Uno Ducksy, Great Attack, Magoo, A Diehl, Streakin’ Mohican, Despite the Odds, Great Mills, Goldzar and Varsity.
