Harness driver Hunter Myers died early Thursday morning after an accident during a race Wednesday at The Meadows in Washington, Pa. He was 27.

The United States Trotting Association posted a statement about his death on X.

"Hunter Myers was a driver, and a very good one at that," the USTA posted on its website.

He was an Ohio native who grew up in the sport and started driving in 2014. He had 2,450 career victories in just under 11 years, according to the website.

Myers was engaged to Chloe Fisher and had a toddler son, Hayden Meyers, according to media reports.

The racing accident involved six horses, according to WJPA-TV. He was flown to a Pittsburgh area hospital where family members said he was being treated for a brain injury.

The other horses and drivers involved in the accident had minor injuries, according to media reports. Racing at The Meadows was cancelled for the rest of the week.
