Speedway Stable’s 6-year-old mare Hard Not To Like and Sheikk Ahmed al Maktoum’s 4-year-old filly Talmada have been scratched from the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1). Hard Not to Like was scratched by her trainer Christophe Clement, while Talmada was scratched by the Stewards for unauthorized administration of Lasix by a private veterinarian.
“Unfortunately, when she trained this morning and was on her way back, she coughed a few times,” said Clement of Hard Not to Like. “And, she coughed again in the shedrow, so we’re not comfortable with that.”
Hard Not to Like, by Hard Spun, won both the Gamely Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita and Diana Stakes (G1) at Saratoga and was coming into the Breeders Cup off an eighth-place finish in the Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita. She had been listed at 10-1 on the morning line.
The Roger Varian-trained Talmada, a Cape Cross filly, had most recently finished second in the E.P. Taylor Stakes (G1) at Woodbine. She was listed as 30-1 on the morning line after drawing into the main body of the race Friday.
