Richard’s Boy became a millionaire by winning the eighth race at Remington Park on Saturday night. It was also jockey Stewart Elliott’s fourth win of the evening.

This 7-year-old gelded son of Idiot Proof, out of the Cee’s Tizzy mare Marissa’s Joy, was a near winner in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar on Nov. 4, 2017. Richard’s Boy was on the turf course again on Saturday, sprinting five furlongs in allowance/optional $40,000 claiming company.

The win gave him $22,947 to add to his lifetime bankroll, which was $980,927 before the race. The gray has now earned $1,003,874 in his career while starting 41 times with 10 wins, 12 seconds and five thirds.

Richard’s Boy is owned by attorney Clark Brewster of Tulsa, Okla., and trained by the country’s second-leading conditioner in earnings, Steve Asmussen. That team claimed Richard’s Boy out of a six-furlong sprint at Churchill Downs in May for $40,000.

The veteran gray is beginning to pay dividends for Brewster.

“He is such a cool, little horse,” Brewster said after the Saturday night victory. “He is happy, healthy and has been training very well. We gave him a good break this summer at the Kesmarc Equine spa in Kentucky and he rewarded us for the patience. Very proud of him reaching the million-dollar mark.”

Elliott also won race one with Superior’s Boy ($4.20 to win), race five with Family Code ($7.20), and race seven with Willtheresaway ($5.40). Richard’s Boy went off at 4-1 odds to pay $10 to win, scoring by a half-length over the 4-5 wagering favorite Zoot Suit, who was 1-1/4 lengths ahead of third-place Game Loading.
