Covent Garden won a trial race at Canterbury in Australia on Friday.

That's hardly newsworthy at first glance, as trial races are unofficial events in which runners practice against horses other than their stablemates under racing conditions.

What makes Covent Garden special is that she is the 2-year-old half-sister to Australian great Winx.

Covent Garden was ridden by Hugh Bowman, the same jockey who piloted the four-time Cox Plate winner in her final 30 races, and is trained by Chris Waller, who also conditioned Winx.

Of course, Winx won 37 times in 43 starts and finished her career on a 33-race winning streak. Her 25 Group 1 wins are a world record.

By Exceed and Excel out of Vegas Showgirl, the dam of Winx, Covent Garden won her 910-meter barrier trial by a head. It was the third trial for her, but the first time she finished first.
