Guy Code ends losing streak Friday at Los Alamitos

Favored Guy Code ended a 12-race losing streak, leading throughout to win the $26,345 feature Friday at Los Alamitos.
Collecting his first victory since April 1, 2016, the 5-year-old Blazonry gelding scored by 2 ¾ lengths under jockey Tiago Pereira as the 8-5 choice.
Owned by Heart Racing Stables and trained by former jockey Goncalino Almeida, Guy Code, who is out of the Gone West mare Stayingalive, completed the five furlongs in 57.34 seconds and returned $5.20, $3.20 and $2.10.
The win was the fifth in 31 starts for the California bred and the increased his earnings to $220,813. He’s now 2-for-5 at Los Alamitos, having won previously during the 2015 Los Angeles County Fair meet.
Guy Code was claimed for $25,000 out of the victory by trainer Brian Koriner for owner Carrol Stubbs.
Masterful Stride, an 8-1 outsider, rallied for second in his Los Alamitos debut and paid $9.20 and $3.60, outfinishing  Jes Jaa, the 2-1 second choice, by a half-length. The show price on Jes Jaa was $2.60.
Stoneys Mr Cruiser, Rocky’s Rainbow and Hollywood Don completed the order of finish.
Racing will resume Saturday at Los Alamitos. Post time is 2 p.m.
The main event on the eight-race program is the Grade III, $200,000 Los Alamitos Derby for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles.
West Coast, an impressive winner of the Easy Goer on the Belmont Stakes undercard June 10, is the 9-5 favorite on Russ Hudak’s morning line. Seven others are scheduled to run.
The Derby, which was won by Accelerate in 2016, is part of a coast-to-coast Pick 4 featuring two local races and two from Belmont Park.
The 50-cent minimum wager begins with the $150,000 Forbidden Apple at one mile on the Widener turf and is followed by a six-furlong contest for 2-year-old maidens bred in New York.
The Pick 4 will also include the race – a $46,000 optional claimer for older horses at one mile - immediately preceding the Derby.
Post time for the Forbidden Apple, which is the eighth of 11 races in New York, is 2:18 p.m. PDT while the maiden race – Belmont Park’s ninth – is scheduled for 2:50 p.m. PDT.
Scheduled post time for Los Alamitos’ sixth is 4:28 p.m. PDT with the Derby slated for 4:58 p.m. PDT.

There will also be a Los Alamitos drawstring backpack giveaway – one per paid admission while supplies last
