Gun Song brings stakes credentials into Monmouth Oaks

Gun Song is the only stakes winner who was entered for the Grade 3, $250,000 Monmouth Oaks, a two-turn, 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies Saturday on the main track at Monmouth Park.

The $400,000 daughter of Gun Runner won the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) on May 17 at Pimlico. Owned by Lee Lewis and trained by Mark Hennig, Gun Song most recently conceded to division leader Thorpedo Anna in a last-place finish June 7 in the Acorn (G1) at Saratoga.

Bred in Kentucky by Marianne Stribling, Gun Song was assigned the top weight of 122 pounds and drew post 5 in the field of eight. Jockey Julien Leparoux takes over for John Velázquez.

Little Jamie, who finished second in a photo finish July 6 in the Indiana Oaks (G3), is a maiden winner who is 1-for-9 for trainer Robbie Medina. Jorge Vargas will be the eighth different jockey for the Collected filly owned by J & J Stables. Carrying 116 pounds, Little Jamie will start widest from post 8.

Scalable, an allowance winner June 29 at Churchill Downs, is 5: 0-1-0 in graded stakes including a fifth-place effort as a maiden in the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Owned by Mike Repole and trained by Todd Pletcher, the $200,000 Speightstown colt ridden for the first time by Paco López will carry 118 pounds from the rail post.

The Monmouth Oaks will be the eighth of 10 races Saturday at 4:14 p.m. EDT. The first post will be at 12:50 p.m.
