Gulfstream Park carded five stakes races for Saturday. Let's see if we can tab a few winners along the way.
Race 3 - Limehouse Stakes (1:05 ET)
Piven is the morning line favorite, and he ran well in all three of his all-weather starts at Woodbine. He shows a pair of local bullet works for this but won't offer much value.
I prefer Empire Power. My top choice earned his best number yet in a clear place finish at this course/distance on Dec. 21, and the winner of that race, Santiamen, is entered in Mucho Macho Man Stakes later today.
Race 5 - Glitter Woman Stakes (2:05 ET)
Romping maiden winners Others Will Follow, Cicatrix and Elevenses are logical threats, but I landed on Foxtrot Sally. My value top choice improved nicely in a wire-to-wire maiden win second time out, and followed that up with an OK third in the Rags to Riches Stakes (one-turn mile). She quickly retreated in the Grade 2 Golden Rod, and is back in a preferred sprint with Javier Castellano in the saddle.
Race 7 - Kitten's Joy Stakes (3:05 ET)
Morning line favorite Flameaway is worth trying to beat on the win end. Two of his three wins were off-track tallies, and his other score was at 4 1/2 furlongs on an all-weather surface. He stalked and weakened to finish eighth of 14 when last seen in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.
Power of Attorney is a strong win contender, but my money will go on Fast Boat. My top win play hooked talented Chad Brown runner Analyze It in his flat mile bow at Belmont Park, and he ended up a distant third at 24-1 after dueling on the lead. He stalked, pounced, and rolled home as the even money favorite at this course/distance on Dec. 8.
Race 9 - Ginger Brew Stakes (4:06 ET)
Andina Del Sur is not the favorite but will almost certainly take action after rallying strongly to produce a 23-1 upset in her turf sprint bow. She is bred to go this far. Another solid win threat, Malibu Saint, exits a decent score in the Wait a While Stakes.
I am selecting morning line favorite, Thewayiam, on top. She defeated Malibu Saint in her U.S. bow before chasing/fading to 11th place from post 11 in the Grade 3 Jimmy Durante at Del Mar on Nov. 25 (top two finishers rallied from 9th and 10th). Jose Ortiz shows a +ROI with Graham Motion, and she can bounce back.
Race 10 - Much Macho Man Stakes (4:37 ET)
Dak Attack is the favorite, and he has some questions to answer. He won his first two starts in Kentucky, but has had trouble getting back in action. He worked on Sept. 3, disappeared until Nov. 18 and Nov. 25, and did not work again until Dec. 16. He fired a local bullet on Dec. 30, but I question his overall fitness, and this is just a starting point.
Santiamen is 2-for-2 overall, and Bal Harbour is 2-for-2 at one mile, but $685,000 Chad Brown runner Mask might be the right one. My promising top pick stalked, pounced, and cruised by 3-plus lengths in his 6 1/2-furlong debut at Belmont Park on Oct. 20, and the runner-up was a next out winner. He shows a steady Florida work pattern for this, and looks ready to roll for a sharp layoff outfit.
