Gulfstream Park news: Zayas to miss extended time with broken femur

Jockey Edgard Zayas was expected Tuesday to remain in Aventura Hospital for a couple more days following Monday surgery to repair a broken femur in his right leg.

“It looks like he’ll be out for three months,” said friend and valet Nelson Figueroa.

Zayas, who ranked sixth in the Championship Meet standings with 15 after capturing the Gulfstream Park West title, was unseated during the running of Sunday’s fifth race, when he his mount, Kitten Killer, collapsed on the backstretch with a shoulder injury.

The 25-year-old jockey, who notched his 200th win of 2018 last Friday, has been a mainstay in South Florida since arriving from his native Puerto Rico in 2012. An Eclipse finalist in 2013 after winning 203 races as an apprentice, Zayas has ridden 1297 winners.

Rainbow 6 Carryover Jackpot Stands at $

After yielding two jackpot payoffs within eight racing days, the 20-cent Rainbow 6 went unsolved Tuesday at Gulfstream Park, where a carryover jackpot of $27,850.56 awaits bettors for Wednesday’s card.

Multiple tickets will all six winners Tuesday were each worth $1,609.40.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The popular multi-race wager was solved Dec. 21 for a $288,350 jackpot and again Dec. 30 for a $177,317 payoff.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $2,962.89 heading into Wednesday’s card.
