With rainfall forecast to continue throughout South Florida through Thursday evening, Gulfstream Park has canceled racing programs on both Friday and Saturday.

Heavy rain has caused damage and flooding in parts of Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade County since Wednesday afternoon, and Gulfstream canceled Thursday's card as well.

The National Weather Service forecast for Hallandale Beach, Fla., calls for more rain through Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday's forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of ran with new rainfall between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. The forecast predicts a 60 percent chance of rain through Saturday and Sunday.

Gulfstream will resume training Saturday morning, but according to a Friday afternoon news release the track canceled racing "out of an abundance of caution."

Gulfstream’s 11-race program Saturday had included the $95,000 Powder Break for fillies and mares and the $75,000 Wildcat Red for 3-year-olds and up. Those races will be brought back next weekend. The racing office will bring back races that were scheduled for Thursday and Friday as extras next week.

After Saturday's cancellation, the next scheduled day of racing at Gulfstream is a 10-race card on Sunday. The richest race on that card is the fourth, a first-level allowance-optional claiming turf mile featuring Silvretta, Typey, and the stakes-placed Love Her Lots.
