Gulfstream Offers $750K Rainbow 6 Guarantee

Saturday’s Rainbow Six will boast a guaranteed jackpot pool of $750,000 for Saturday’s 11-race card at Gulfstream Park.

The 20-cent wager will consist of races 6 through 11, including the $60,000 Orange Blossom Stakes (Race 7), featuring the return of Little Dreams Racing’s Little Alexis. In order to hit the Rainbow Six, one unique ticket must contain all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Saturday’s Late Pick 4 will have a guaranteed jackpot pool of its own of $100,000. The Late Pick Four will include the day’s final four races, the eighth through eleventh.

Pick 5 will also have a guaranteed jackpot pool of $50,000 and consist of races 7 through 11.

Shatak Captures Friday Feature

Silver Moon Racing LLC’s Shatak ($15.60) picked up right where he left of when returning to Gulfstream’s turf course off a three-month freshening when he notched his second straight victory in Friday’s eighth and featured race, a 1 mile turf allowance for older runners.

The 5-year-old son of Cryptoclearance, who had not run since capturing an allowance on Dec. 27, ran down the frontrunners to score a 1 ½-length victory over McIlroy, covering the mile distance in 1:33.47.The George Weaver trainee has never finished off the board when running on the Gulfstream lawn and now boasts a record of three wins and a third from four starts over the surface.

“This horse is particularly fond of this turf course here,” Weaver said. “We’d been trying to enter him for a while. We always look for 7 ½ furlong to 1 mile races, because that’s his best distance, and we just couldn’t get lucky and get a race to go, but finally, after a long wait we got the race to go, and he ran like I thought he could.”

Weaver also praised jockey Gabe Saez for his ride and decision-making aboard his horse.

“I asked Gabriel [Saez] to warm him up good and try to put him in a good tactical position. He did it, but then they kind of ran away from him a little as they turned up the pace around the backside. When I saw the first quarter in 23 [seconds] and then they picked it up even more and went the half in 45 [seconds] and change, I said, ‘This is going to work out well. He’s in the spot he should be in.’ Gabe did a great job. He saved ground every time he had a chance to, and I’m glad to win with him. This is the first time I’ve won with Gabe, and it worked out very well.”
