Gulfstream: $678K Rainbow 6 Carryover Sunday
One bettor's dream of a $1 million 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot payoff Saturday was dashed when No. 8 Moonlit Friday finished sixth in Gulfstream Park's 12th race, falling short of completing a unique winning ticket.
On a program that included the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2), $200,000 Fasig-Tipton Swale (G2) and the $150,000 Palm Beach Stakes (G3), the carryover jackpot for the Rainbow 6 was guaranteed for $1 million Saturday.
The popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for 16 consecutive live programs since it was last hit for $133,874.46 with a $4 ticket on Feb. 12. The largest payout of the Championship Meet was $317,161.44 on Jan. 3 with a ticket costing $33.60.
The innovative exotic bet produced a $6.6 million jackpot on May 25, 2014, setting a national record for pick-6 wagers.
Multiple ticketholders of the 5-2-8-1-7-6 combination each received $5,423.62 Saturday.
The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is paid out only when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
In addition to the $678,315.88 carryover jackpot, Sunday's 12-race program will also offer a $50,000 pool guarantee for the 50-cent Pick 5 and a $100,000 guaranteed pool for the Late Pick 4. There will also be a $10,233.56 carryover for the Super Hi-5.
Who’s Hot: Trainer Tom Albertrani put an end to his winless streak during the Championship Meet in style Saturday. His meet of futility, which included a disqualification and several near misses, took a decided upturn when he saddled maiden Ocean Telegraph ($20.40) to victory in the second race. The son of Street Cry set a course record for 1 3/16 miles with his 1:53.52 clocking in the process. Albertrani made a return to the winner's circle three races later after saddling Biz the Nurse ($6.80) for a victory in the fifth race, a 1 7/16-mile optional claiming allowance event on turf. He capped his big day winning the Fasig-Tipton Swale with Ready for Rye ($14.60) in the sixth.
Luis Saez, who was aboard Ocean Telegraph and Ready for Rye, also scored with Unbridled Juan ($8.20) in the seventh.
Inchscape ($6) set a turf course record for 1 1/16 miles while winning the fourth race, a $50,000 optional claiming allowance. The Jason Servis-trained 5-year-old ran the distance in 1:38.10 under Javier Castellano to eclipse a nine-year-old record. Congleve's 1:38.17 clocking on Jan. 20, 2006 was the old record.
In addition to his winning ride aboard Inchscape, Castellano was victorious aboard Biz the Nurse for Albertrani in the fifth, Chipit ($6.80) in the eighth, and Honor Code ($7) in the Gulfstream Park Handicap in 10th race.
