El Kabeir, a graded stakes winner at age 2 and 3, will stand at Yeomanstown Stud in Ireland, the farm announced Tuesday.

Campaigned by Zayat Stables and trained by Bill Mott upon retirement, the 5-year-old son of Scat Daddy broke his maiden at Saratoga and won three points-paying races on the Kentucky Derby trail in 2015.

While El Kabeir didn’t run in on the first Saturday in May — he was a late scratch — he returned to the races, winning the City of Laurel Stakes in November of 2015. Of course, Zayat Stables took the Derby (and much more) that same year with American Pharoah.

“El Kabeir is a magnificent looking animal,” said owner Ahmed Zayat. “We bought him as a yearling at OBS. His talent was clear to see early on — hence we gave him such a good name, El Kabeir, meaning ‘The Boss.’”

El Kaibeir’s stud fee will be announced later.

On the track, he won five of 20 starts with earnings of $946,000. Last out, El Kabeir finished second on July 7 in an allowance race at Belmont Park.
