Soldat, a grade II winner by War Front, has been retired from racing because of a suspensory injury. He remains with trainer Kiaran McLaughlin at Palm Meadows in Florida. Breeding plans are undecided.
In what was his last start, 5-year-old Soldat ran fourth, beaten a half-length, in the Hal's Hope Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park Jan. 13 for owners Harvey A. Clarke, W. Craig Robertson III, Paul Braverman, and Namcook Stable.
Soldat scored his biggest win at Gulfstream at 3, capturing the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) after beginning the year with a 10 3/4-length win at the track. Two races later, he ran 11th in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
