Grade 2 winner My Majestic Rose euthanized after training incident

Rodolphe Brisset says he must have breezed 25 horses that same morning last week, and all but one went off without a hitch. But while working an easy half mile at Keeneland — “nothing fancy,” he said — the recent Summertime Oaks (G2) winner My Majestic Rose broke down.

“We couldn’t save her,” Brisset said Wednesday. “This one was pretty tough. It was one of those really, really freak accidents. She never missed a day.”

A daughter of Majestic Warrior who Brisset termed “the sweetest horse,” My Majestic Rose was campaigned by Judy Hicks and making her return to the work tab off a victory in her stakes debut.

The filly won two of six career starts, with the scores in succession to end her career. After breaking her maiden May 2 at Churchill Downs, she wheeled back on May 26 in Santa Anita Park’s Summertime Oaks.

My Majestic Rose registered a mild upset by edging a half length ahead of odds-on favorite Sneaking Out.

“She made me look good,” Brisset said.

The former jockey agent-turned-assistant trainer worked with Patrick Biancone and then Hall of Famer Bill Mott before striking out on his own. My Majestic Rose was his fourth graded stakes winner joining Quip, Talk Veuve to Me and Positive Spirit.

Brisset said My Majestic Rose was pulled up at the quarter pole of her breeze.

“It hit me pretty hard,” he said. “I know it’s a business. Even though I’m young, I’ve been in it a long time. This one was one of the toughest I’ve ever had.”
