Grade 1 winner Mixto is retired to stud in New York
Mixto, the Grade 1-winning son of Good Magic, has been retired to stud at Hidden Lake Farm near Stillwater, N.Y.
Mixto won the Grade 1, $1 million Pacific Classic in 2024. His final race was a runner-up performance in this year's Dubai World Cup (G1), where he was caught late by Hit Show. 2025 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Forever Young was third. Mixto retires with an 18: 2-3-5 career record and earnings of $3,330,680, making him sire Good Magic's leading money earner to date.
"Champion 2-year-old Good Magic is off to a great start as a sire of sires with grade 1-winning sons Muth, Mage and Dornoch at stud," Chris Bernhard, owner of Hidden Lake Farm, said. "To have a Grade 1 winner and Good Magic's leading-money earner of $3,330,680 standing in New York is a true testament to the strength of the New York program. We believe standing top-class runners by Candy Ride, Gun Runner and now Good Magic for the 2026 season is perfect timing with the new Belmont Park and New York-breds running for purse parity in the near future.”
"Mixto was a top-class runner. His race in the 2025 Dubai World Cup was incredible," Calumet Farm general manager Eddie Kane said. Mixto, trained by Doug O'Neill, was owned by Calumet during his racing career. "Mixto challenged the pace most of the race, unleashed a powerful move in the stretch, and was nailed at the wire while beating the 2025 Breeders' Cup Classic winner. We look forward to supporting Mixto in New York in 2026.”
Mixto’s dam Musical Mystery is a sister to grade 1 winner Rigoletta, dam of Grade 1-winning millionaire Battle of Midway and multiple graded stakes placed Moretti. He is from the family of 2018 Cigar Mile (G1) winner Patternrecognition as well.
Mixto will stand as the property of a syndicate for $10,000, live foal stands and nurses. Also joining the stallion roster at Hidden Lake for 2026 are Disarm, a Grade 3-winning and multiple Grade 1-placed son of Gun Runner and Confidence Game, a Grade 2-winning son of Candy Ride out of Eblouissante, a Bernardini half-sister to Zenyatta.
