Gracia, Bermudez Injured at Aqueduct

Jockey Jason Gracia is being treated for a concussion and kept overnight in the Intensive Care Unit at Jamaica Hospital after a spill in the third race at Aqueduct Racetrack on Saturday.

Jockey Jose Bermudez, also involved in the spill, is undergoing testing at North Shore Medical Center after complaining of rib soreness.

In the race, a New York state-bred maiden special weight going 1 1/16 miles on the turf, Ryan and Jack (#5), trained by Pat Kelly, stumbled and fell on the far turn, causing Gracia, 28, to land on the turf. October Dreams (#2), trained by Cleveland Johnson, collided with Ryan and Jack as he was on the ground, unseating Bermudez, 41.

October Dreams, a 3-year-old gelding, appeared to be uninjured, while Ryan and Jack, a 4-year-old gelding, suffered a skull fracture and had to be euthanized.
