Gracefully Mean Proven Commodity at Big M

With a solid record of eight
in the money finishes from 10 lifetime starts, Gracefully Mean has certainly
proven she’s a solid commodity at the Jamie Woodington barn. On Saturday at the Big M, she’ll put those
credentials on the line when she tries the turf for the first time, breaking
from post 11 in the featured $30,000 allowance/optional claiming event.
“She has turf breeding and
has a big round foot, which should suit her well for the grass,” said
Woodington. “She shows up every race and
is a very smart filly. I’m sure she’ll
handle the new surface just fine.”
Gracefully Mean, a 3-year-old
daughter of Bandini from the Sky Classic mare Classy Agenda, was bred in New
Jersey. She made three starts in 2011,
but failed to find the winner’s circle.
On July 4 of this year she broke her maiden by an impressive eight
lengths and since took an entry level allowance before a runner-up finish most
recently in the Jersey Girl Handicap on New Jersey Thoroughbred Festival Day at
Monmouth (Sept. 15).
“She’s doing really well,”
Woodington said. “She’s a real nice
filly and I’m looking forward to her turf debut.”
An overfilled field of 14
have entered Saturday’s feature, with 12 able to run. Gracefully Mean will carry 117 pounds, most
of that jockey Pedro Cotto Jr.
