Gozzip Girl Set to Return

The field for next Saturday’s Grade 2, $150,000 New York is beginning to take shape, with eight fillies and mares probable for the 67th running of the 1¼-mile turf race.

Gozzip Girl will make her first start as a 4-year-old in the New York, following an impressive sophomore campaign in which she won the Grade 1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park, the Grade 2 Sands Point at Belmont, and the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride at Gulfstream Park.

Ave, owned by Three Chimneys Racing is one of two probable entrants for trainer Roger Attfield, who could also send Charles Fipke’s Lady Shakespeare. Ave exits a third place finish in her first start in the United States, the Grade 3 Gallorette Handicap on the Preakness Day undercard May 15, while Lady Shakespeare won the Grade 3 Bewitch Stakes at Keeneland on April 22 in her most recent outing.

Second to Lady Shakespeare in the Bewitch was Swettenham Stud’s Changing Skies, one of three Bill Mott trainees who could start on Saturday. Kiawah Cat, third in a Keeneland allowance race on April 18 and Treat Gently, winner of the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay at Belmont on May 22, were also named probable starters.

Nehantic Kat, second in the Sheepshead Bay, and Daveron, a turf allowance winner on May 14 at Belmont are also probable according to NYRA Stakes Coordinator Andrew Byrnes.
