Goodtimehadbyall Wins Churchill Feature
Merrill Scherer, Dan Lynch and Ken Sentel's Goodtimehadbyall rallied
furiously down the Churchill Downs stretch and got up in the final jump
to take the $61,962 Friday evening allowance feature by a neck over
Philippe.
Goodtimehadbyall rated toward the back of the
field of nine, ahead of only In the Beat, through opening fractions of
:22.76 and :45.38 set by Closerwalk and Maximus Ruler. A 4-year-old
gelded son of Quiet American, Goodtimehadbyall began to move toward the
leaders as the field approached the top of the stretch and then swung
nearly six wide under Miguel Mena.
Goodtimehadbyall
charged down the stretch with a strong rally, but still had plenty of
work to do at the sixteenth pole. The Merrill Scherer-trained
Goodtimehadbyall sustained his courageous rally and prevailed in the
final jump, completing the seven furlongs on the fast main track in
1:23.06.
The victory was worth $37,500 and improved
Goodtimehadbyall's record to 5-5-4 from 29 career starts and earnings of
$222,713.
Goodtimehadbyall returned $31.20, $13.80 and
$4.60. Philippe, ridden by Manny Cruz, finished second and returned
$11.60 and $5.60 with favored Shrill, under Corey Lanerie, another head
back in third and returning $2.60 to show.
