Swift Thoroughbreds and Bradley Thoroughbreds’ Goldy Espony captured her fifth victory in her last six starts, dominating a field of 11 fillies with a front-running performance in the $100,000 La Prevoyante (G3).
Ridden by Javier Castellano, the defending four-time Championship Meet titlist, Goldy Espony was in complete control throughout the stakes for fillies and mares over 1 ½ miles on turf. Sent to post as the 6-5 favorite, the Chad Brown-trained 4-year-old filly ran her record to 4-for-4 at the distance while scoring by 1 ½ lengths.
Goldy Espony broke alertly from her No. 11 post position to grab a quick lead heading into the first turn, stalked by Maximova on the inside and Promotional to the outside. The Brown-trained filly would never have an uneasy moment through the remainder of the 1 ½-mile turf race while setting set comfortably fractions of 24.87 and 50.35 seconds for the first half mile, followed by six furlongs in 1:16.84 and a mile in 1:42.59.
Maximova held second under Joe Bravo, a neck ahead of Rosalind and jockey Edgard Zayas.
Goldy Espony finished the 1 ½ miles in 2:29.51.
“I had a great trip. I was concerned about being so far outside, but she is so quick out of the gate. She put me in a good spot in the first turn. When she had the lead on the first turn, I thought she had the race locked up,” Castellano said. “She dictated the pace. She was really comfortable on the lead, just galloping along. It was very impressive the way she ran today. I don’t think anyone could have beat her the way she ran today.”
The French-bred daughter of Vespone was imported from France in 2014, racing twice that year without success. This year, she has been nearly unbeatable.
“We’re real proud of this filly,” said Dash Goff, a partner in Bradley Thoroughbreds. “This is a great win. Any win is great. I have raced here for a long time, going back to Bert Sonnier. We had Nodouble back in the old days. I’m going to send Bert the program.”
