Goldikova Lands Rail in Breeders' Cup Mile

Goldikova, shooting for a fourth Breeders' Cup Mile triumph, drew the rail and has been made the 7-5 morning line favorite for Saturday's turf test.

Freddie Head trains six-year-old mare Goldikova, who drew outer posts in the last two editions of the BC Mile. The classy flat mile specialist will likely call it a career after this event.

Goldikova seems vulnerable this time around. In her last three trips to the United States, she had won three of her previous four starts heading into the BC Mile. This year, she has lost three of her last four outings.

Last year's BC Mile runner-up, Gio Ponti, will try to turn the tables on the aforementioned queen of the green. Once again, he exits a sharp score in the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland and is also expected to wrap up his racing career on Saturday.

Courageous Cat and Turallure are both listed at 8-1 on the line. The former landed the place in the '09 BC Mile and enters on top of his game. The latter landed the dreaded 13-hole and beat Courageous Cat by a neck in the G1 Woodbine Mile last time.

Byword invades from France for dangerous international conditioner Andre Fabre. He exits back-to-back overseas turf wins and came within a 1/2 length of Goldikova in last year's G1 Prix d'Ispahan.

Another overseas import is Strong Suit. The three-year-old colt is a head away from four straight wins but appears most effective at seven panels. He drew post eleven.

Last year's BC Mile pacesetter Sidney's Candy is probably the one to catch once again. He was last seen landing the show in the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile.

Mr. Commons is an interesting longshot for John Shirreffs. The three-year-old colt has been 1-2 in each of his four turf starts and ran well against older graded turf milers in his last pair.

Zoffany, Get Stormy, Jeranimo, Court Vision, and Compliance Officer are also entered.
